Working women in Delhi who travel long distances on a daily basis or pay outrageous rent for paying guest facilities will soon have the option of living in a low-cost hostel facility in the city centre, due to recommendations from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
According to the current hostel rules in Delhi, only women from outside the national capital are eligible for admission.
“Several women who are living in rural parts of the city or outer Delhi like Najafgarh, Bawana, Nangloi come to the city. Some travel from Dilshad Garden to Gurgaon. We have also received applications from Delhi residents for hostel admission but due to the restrictions and guidelines, they are not getting admission. Thus, the NDMC is planning to ease the restrictions, so those who want to stay close to their offices get admission in hostels,” stated a representative from the NDMC.
In Delhi, NDMC operates three hostels: Mandir Marg, Bhagwan Das Road, INA, and, Mandi House. It offers everything from single rooms to dorm rooms. Food, power, cleaning, water, and security are all included in the hostels' monthly costs, which range from Rs 6,500 to 10,000.
The NDMC is also revamping its hostel and old age home, according to officials. In Laxmibai Nagar, a new working women's hostel is also being built.
