Shivani Mudgal Assistant
Vice President & Regional Head (Australia & New Zealand)

Leadership qualities in a person shine through when faced with adversity. Those that do not give up and instead find ways to combat any challenge life throws at them and emerge on the other side victorious are the real changemakers. Shivani Mudgal, Assistant Vice President and Regional Head (Australia and New Zealand) at Trinamix is an example of exceptional leadership. Overcoming some of the harshest and most daunting challenges that life can present, she molded her life in ways most will consider inconceivable, embarking on an extraordinary journey full of ups and downs. Moving to a new country, losing a spouse, and raising an infant, while completely reshaping her career path from the medical field to tech-based marketing, starting from scratch, learning the ropes, and becoming an Assistant Vice President, her journey and grit are nothing short of an inspiration. We had the opportunity to converse with her and here are some highlights from that interaction.

What are some important facets of your life and professional journey that you wish to highlight through the article? Also, take us through your educational background and prior industry experience.

My educational journey started with pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine. I am a registered medical practitioner in India. However, I later decided to pursue an MBA from IIPM, Delhi, with a major in Marketing and HR, during which I discovered my interest in marketing. However, I was still strongly involved in the healthcare segment and got my first job with Quest Diagnostics. I then moved on to work with some significant hospitals, and later to the Core Diagnostics where I undertook a job in the sales segment initially. Well, moving onto the market segment, I also got an opportunity to become a part of the launch of the unique product one of its kind NIPT (Non-invasive prenatal test) as a product Manager looking into cervical cancer and solid tumors. I then worked for a product that could predict if an unborn child had Down syndrome and other congenital anomalies. Shortly after, my husband, daughter, and I moved to Australia. After losing my husband to severe sickness, I started looking for jobs that I could do while caring for my infant daughter, landing me in Trinamix. As the first employee in the marketing segment, I had a lot of responsibility including establishing the firm’s entity in this region. During my professional journey, I also pursued another PG degree in Forensics Law and Jurisprudence.

Introduce us to Trinamix. Tell us about the major responsibilities you shoulder as the company’s Director of Sales.

Trinamix is an Oracle Applications Services and Solutions Partner. The company is a leading supply chain implementer in North America offering Oracle software solutions right up to implementation. Initially, as we were establishing the firm in the Australasia region, I was handling everything right from marketing to HR to legal aspects, and more. However, that is not the case anymore. Currently, my primary focus is Sales, and I work closely with Oracle as this role is more solution-oriented and delivery focused wherein I handle implementation and outcome expectations. As a leader, I am also responsible for setting benchmarks for customer service and ensuring customer success. I am also responsible for staying abreast of the performance of various teams and supporting and empowering them as needed.

"we offer end-to-end managed services & ensure our customers are completely satisfied"

In your opinion, what are some of the most critical challenges you encounter in your current role? What steps do you undertake to overcome these roadblocks?

One of the biggest challenges is competing with other Oracle Channel Partners like Big 4s and Tier-I. Since we are not the only channel partner, and because local and regional knowledge plays a primary role in Australia, it presents a big challenge for staying competitive. However, to combat these roadblocks, we play on our strengths which lie with supply chain management, and supply planning. On a global scale, we have conducted a higher number of implementations than other competitors. Additionally, we offer end-to-end managed services and ensure our customers are completely satisfied.

Tell us about the top three milestones you have achieved throughout your professional journey.

One of the major milestones for me was when during my last quarter with Quest, I accomplished 153 percent sales target despite being the youngest in the team. I also achieved top performer for sales three times during this short stint which was quite a proud moment for me. In my educational life, I retained my position as the topper for four and a half years continuously, due to which my name is still on the university’s board of achievers. The biggest milestone for me remains the work I did in Australia. I was not at all aware of what Oracle is, however I learnt everything about it, established a whole company vertical, and have today risen to the rank of Assistant Vice President, and during this whole journey I have achieved many awards and recognitions.

How do you align yourself with evolving industry trends and new-age technology?

Coming from an era where technology was still developing to now when everyday something new is coming up, I focus very strongly on keeping myself updated with the latest trends. This is also what I foster in my team. We have clients from all different industries which also gives us insight as well as requires us to know about the latest developments in the industry, new regulations, industry best practices, and more. So developing a curiosity and willingness to keep learning is vital to align oneself with industry trends in today’s fast-paced world.
