Take Us Through Your Early Education And Prior Industry Experience. When Did You Realize You Wanted To Pursue A Career As An Entrepreneur?
After completing my MBA from Rajasthan University, like many others from my small town of Ajmer, I too proceeded to Delhi with hopes of a "good" employment opportunity. While working for a firm, I had to take a break from work owing to health reasons of my 2-year-old son who we ultimately lost struggling with disease and this started with phase of depression for me and huge financial set back owing to hospital expenses. While struggling with this and wanting to escape from sorry expressions of friends and family I decided to venture on my own just to keep my mind diverted I realized that work/job would have its limitations by way of fixed income, the necessity to follow office rules and adhering to timings, and more. While it may be a good thing for many others, I realized that I preferred to be my own master and hence decided to explore the entrepreneurial route. I realized that entrepreneurship would also help me provide many others with a source of livelihood. My husband wholeheartedly and completely support-ed me in this. After extensive efforts and a lot of hard work, I started my setup in 2002.
How Did You Get Your Unique Start In The Merchandising Industry And What Were The Initial Days Like?
The initial days were hard. I started from home and worked on a computer borrowed from a friend. The days were tough and there were moments when I nearly decided to drop everything since I did not have any progress. Many of the leads did not pan out, which, at times, caused me to doubt my decisions. However, I had my objectives set in my mind and decided that if I let temporary setbacks affect me, I would not be able to achieve the same and hence pushed through. As a result of my perseverance, I managed to start my company which today has become one of the most prominent names in the sector in the country.
In Your Opinion, How Important Is Home Décor While Creating A Living Space? What Are Some Design Trends And Approaches That Reflect The Products Sourced By The Firm?
Homes are the identity of the owner's personality and need to be designed in such a way that it is comfort-able, looks beautiful and the décor is pleasing. Hence it has to be tastefully designed, has products that are utility-oriented, and meets all safety and environmental standards. “Springs home” with their team makes this all possible. Over the years, Springs Home has cultivated a large clientele base, particularly from Europe and the United States. I keep myself aligned with the various trends and technologies developing in the industry by attending various fairs and meets being organized across the country. I make it a point to make factory visits to see the latest developments of various vendors. Further, my experience of working with international clients and a wide variety of vendors has enabled me to follow the latest trends and styles, enabling me and my team to bring ideal home décor products from our various vendors to our clients.
What Are Some Facets Of Your Personality And Leadership Style That Have Helped You Propel The Company Further In Its Journey?
Unlike some company leaders, I value the inputs/opinion of team members while taking many company decisions. Springs Home provides every team member to voice their opinions. We take collective decisions regarding styles, trends, and technologies and share our views with the buyer. When things are at an im-passe, being self-motivated helps me to guide my team to adopt the right approach for problem-solving. I also delegate my tasks suitably, considering the aptitude and workload handling capacity of my team members, which has enabled Springs Home to function as well-oiled machinery.
What Would Be Your Words Of Advice To Aspiring Entrepreneurs And Business Leaders?
To aspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders, I would like to give only once advice – to never restrict your dreams. Only if you dream big can you do some-thing big. Once you are clear of your objective, go all out with your efforts to achieve the same. You may encounter setbacks and difficulties on the way, but if you sincerely put in your best efforts, you will certainly achieve your goals, even though a bit delayed. So never stop trying.
