Clarity Communication: Branding With Transparency, Feasibility, And A Proactive Approach

Ms. Sowmya Iyer
Founder & CEO

A PR agency has the ability to either make or break a brand. A good PR agency can improve brand reputation, increase sales and ensure visibility, giving a company the bandwidth to focus on the other parts of the business. However, in recent years, a persistent cause of concern among many is regarding the ‘non-transparent’ nature of PR agencies. The difference between what is said and what is done, has been one of the main factors contributing to many businesses breaking their contract with PR agencies. It is hence important to find a PR team that not only adds value to a brand, but also works in line with the needs of a business. One such PR agency that has been working hand in hand with a transparent and proactive approach is Clarity Communication. Headquartered in New Delhi, Clarity Communication is a new age PR & communication advisory firm with vision to provide impeccable quality PR service to diversified clients.

The journey of Clarity Communication started in 2016 with Ms. Sowmya Iyer who has 20-years of experience in the public relations domain managing diverse clients. She is the mastermind who leveraged her experience to create a PR agency that works with clients (not for).

Take Us Through Your Journey That Led To The Beginning Of Clarity Communication.

After completing a Masters in Political Science, I dabbled with a lot of different job roles across various companies. I was not sure which industry to fit myself in and I was simply ‘going with the flow’. But I knew I wanted to do something different and one day that opportunity came through a friend in Bangalore. Shewas heading a PR agency who was looking for a able person and asked me if I would want to be a part of her office. I honestly did not ponder much, I decided to join and explore the same. It was the best decision, since then, there was no going back. I enjoyed working as a PR and continued to do so for more than a decade. Being an employee was fun because I enjoyed the work, but something was amiss, I knew I wanted to do something more. I wanted to step away from the full-time employee role. So, I decided to quit and make it on my own. My wish to do that further found its roots when an ex-client reached out to me with an opportunity. I then started my journey as a freelance PR 4 years into that, and one day, a client told me that he would be happy to invest if I started an agency of my own. Having seen so many around me fail in their startup ventures, I was not sure if I wanted to do that but after a lot of thought, I gave in and thought, ‘let's do this’. That’s when Clarity Communication came into being, a product of trust laid on me by my clients, present and past.

Throw Some Light On The Factors That Make Clarity Communication Stand Apart From Its Contemporaries In The Industry.

Our flagship is PR services. We also provide social media, digital marketing and content development services but our core is PR. Our clients are mostly startups and SMEs because we understand that startups may not have the exposure and funds like the big giants so according to their budget, we cater to the needs of these sets of clients. But what sets us apart from the rest is first, our transparency. We are 100 percent honest to our clients about what can and cannot be done. We ensure that we give them realistic expectations. Second, the proactive approach. I, personally, ensure that I speak to the clients and stay in touch so we can provide the best service. It is important to proactively service our clients.

What Trends Do You See Developing In The Pr Industry In The Near Future?

I expect technology to play a big role in the PR industry. A lot of digital PR is coming into being and even clients are now understanding the value of digital PR. Also, focused PR is one trend that is evolving, I expect these two to be the next big things for our industry.

Any Word Of Advice For Women Aspiring To Be Entrepreneurs And Foray Into The Field Of Communications?

I have seen this trend among many that they don’t have the drive. Often than not, ‘women card’ is played. That, trust me, is not the way. The first step to success is competence and second is the drive, and this is for both men and women. To be the best, one needs to keep going and never give up.
