An individual’s external expression is often a reflection of their inner self. In order to achieve any outcome in the physical world, we must first work on our inner being and thought process. However, not many people are self-aware about the internal challenges and shortcomings they face that may be adversely impacting their professional and personal lives. This is when gifted life coaches can help pave the way for us. Helping clients’ improve the quality of life by strengthening their inner selves is Purvangi Shukla, an experienced life coach, psychologist and NLP practitioner.

You have had a diverse career path so far. How did the journey bring you into the arenas of life coaching, psychology and NLP? What has been your primary motivation behind choosing this career path?

I am a commerce graduate and then went on to work across varied fields for over 12 years; psychology as a subject was never a part of my expertise in all these years. However, I realized that working in the professional domain required strong communication skills along with the capability to understand the other person’s mindset, feelings and thoughts. I gradually developed an inclination towards psychology and eventually discovered NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programing), a new methodology for communication, personal development & psychotherapy. I also believe that unless we are able to fathom the true nature of the pain felt by others, we won’t be able to help them. My understanding of people and their problems is derived through my own personal experiences.

Upon completing a certified NLP course from Boston, US, I ventured into conducting seminars as a life coach and NLP practitioner.

Throw some light on your various areas of expertise as a life coaching, psychologist and nlp parctitioner.

I meet people, understand the mental health challenges they face (anxiety, depression, anger, discouragement, hopelessness, addiction, lack of decision making, OCD, Cognitive thought process etc) and how it impacts their personal & professional life. My niche area of expertise is working with executives from the corporate world. My primary responsibility is to work on the mindset of CEOs or other management level executives and help them achieve outcomes in the real world by working on their inner self.

Other than conducting one on one sessions, I have also ventured into online group classes for corporate professionals. In ambit of my work I interact with highly successful people; however I often notice that they lack satisfaction and happiness. I counsel such people and help them rise to a higher level of self. Additionally, we conduct seminars, webinars, online courses, one on one counselling, group counselling and industrial counselling as well.

As an NLP practitioner I have also developed deep expertise in working with parents, adolescents and children.

In your opinion what are some of the major industry specific challenges that you face as a life coach? How do life coach, psychologist and NLP practitioner overcome these to ensure effective results for your clients?

Our mind is one of the most critical organs of our body and most issues that we face in our lives arise due to our faulty thought process. However, most people who approach life coaches or counsellors often don’t have the understanding of their problems. The toughest challenge I face as a life coach is to delve deep into the clients’ psyche and find the root cause of their issues.

Another major challenge that I face is in terms of developing acceptance among clients. A majority of the people are not ready to accept their weaknesses or shortcomings. But, only when they acknowledge the problem will they be able to overcome it. Also, as a life coach or NLP practitioner I can only pin point the solution and techniques that might help a client. Ultimately it depends on them to implement my suggestions in their life in order to see a change.

My biggest weapon to fight against these adversities is the connection I build with my clients, which allows them to open up to me and trust me wholeheartedly. I also insist that my clients focus on solutions rather than on the problems.

As a life coach and nlp practitioner what is your take on the current pandemic and its effect on the mental health of people of all ages?

The ongoing Covid 19 crisis has had adverse effects of the mental health of several people. I have noticed that people have become more fearful about various aspects of their lives, be it wealth, health, relationships etc. many have had to go through rough times owing to loss of jobs, loss at business or staying cut off from near and dear ones which brings in a barrage of negative thoughts in their mind.

The pandemic has particularly been rough on young children who have lost touch with their peer group which has eventually affected their social skills. Many people have become reserved and socially inept.

What new methodologies or specializations are you adding to your arsenal of techniques for the future? What’s your goal or road map for the near future?

Of late I have started researching on ancient Indian scriptures and texts such as Bhagwat Gita, Vedas, Upanishads, Samhitas etc. All of these age old texts are sources of Indian philosophy that teach us about psychology which can help us in our professional and personal lives. I have conducted in-depth research on this topic and am about to launch a book in November with the name of PERSONAL FREEDOM - PSYCHOLOGY IN SHREEMAD BHAGAWAD GITA.

I am also constantly on the quest to understand who I am and better myself with time. I rely on spending time in solitude having meaningful internal dialogues, reading voraciously and interacting with other people to hone my skills as a life coach, psychologist and NLP practitioner.
