Starting in the late 1970s, surveys concerning women in the profession and leadership roles were conducted the numbers weren't encouraging. In 1958, 1 percent of registered architects were women. By 1988 that range had risen to 4 % and 13.5 % by 1999. The AIA's 2006 survey of design companies reported: “Since the late 1990s, the share of women in leadership roles in the profession has continuing to grow.

The roles of women in the fields of architecture and style have long been mostly unnoticed due to gender discrimination. luckily, there are skilled organizations that support women in overcoming these ancient barriers.

For a century and a half, women have been proving their passion and talent for design and architecture in a very male-dominated profession. it's a contradiction that even in the 21st century, architecture can still be a difficult career path for women, and gender difference continues to be a reason for concern. However, some female architects are challenging the profession's boys' club daily and have deeply wedged architecture as we all know it nowadays.

If there have been cities, women have designed them: shaping structures, influencing architecture, and planning the neighbourhoods we live in. But today, in the world-leading companies imagining the cities of the longer term, equality remains a long way off.
