G20 EMPOWER Summit will be inaugurated by Union Minister Smriti Irani

The G20 EMPOWER (Empowerment and Progression of Women's Economic Representation) Summit will start today in Gandhinagar. It will be officially inaugurated by Smriti Zubin Irani, the Union Minister of Women and Child Development.

The theme finalized for this year's G20 EMPOWER Summit is 'Women-led Development: Ensuring a Sustainable, Inclusive, and equitable global economic growth.

The event will include participation from experts from G20 countries, guest countries, and international organizations in addition to policymakers and other stakeholders. Various facets of Women's empowerment will be covered during the sessions which will include exploration of the transformative roles of women in leadership positions.

The country's experiences in developing different companies of Digital Public Infrastructure will be highlighted in the section titled "Leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure to advance financial equality for women".

Another session named Closing the Gap: Achieving tech equity for women, will cover strategies for closing the gaps and attracting more women to the field of technology.

Smriti Irani has already supported two international meetings of G20 EMPOWER 2023 that were held in India in February and April. The outcomes of these meetings will be reflected in the Empower communique.

The opening session will feature Sima Bahous, executive director of UN Women, Mahendra Munjpara, Minister of state for women's and children's development, Lakshmi Shyam Sunder, vice-president, of World Bank, and Indevar Pandey who is the secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child development.
