The 2024–25 Interim Union Budget was released yesterday by the FM Nirmala Sitharaman. There was a major focus on women's welfare in India which includes the Lakhpati Didi project, which encourages women in rural areas to create small-scale enterprises and offers training in diverse categories like weaving, plumbing, and sewing. The program aims to give 3 crore women the resources they need to become self-sufficient in their finances.

The Lakhpati Didi scheme, aimed at empowering rural women to become financially independent, has been allocated with Rs. 26,000 crores for the 2024-25 fiscal year. This initiative will help the women's self-help groups (SHG) in fostering more 'lakhpati didis' and also fuel the 'nari shakti' sentiment in the state.

Sneha Bhagwat, the vice president of the BJP Mahila Morcha party, said, "The finance minister has taken a visionary step and I applaud it as part of an ongoing process to develop Atmanirbhar Bharat and boost the micro economy so that the gap between the rich and the poor is minimized."

At the inauguration of the Panchayat Bazaar project, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat urged women leaders to press for the renewal of a handicrafts mall, a project proposed 13 years ago to support women's SHGs in Margao.
