The real estate industry is largely considered to be a male dominated field. However, much like every other field, gradually more and more women are taking the real estate industry by storm. Women in the field of real estate are all stereotypes by taking up all possible roles. Be it running a construction business or helping buyers as brokers, women professionals are leaving no stones unturned to make their presence felt within the industry. However, one can note that this is a recent evolution. One of the major contributors to the rise of women in real estate has been the increased structure within the industry. While earlier, real estate was a highly fragmented and unorganized sector with various small players, today the industry is more streamlined. Technology is another major factor that has removed several barriers which were earlier slowing down the rise of women in the field of real estate.

While things are changing rapidly on the ground, there still remains a large scope of improvement. Take for instance the membership credentials of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) India; the national body has close to 5000 active members of which only a measly 100 are women. Reports however suggest that while women formed just two percent of the entire body, yet they contributed close to 8-10 percent of the total business.

In the current edition of Women Entrepreneur India we bring to you some such prolific women leaders redefining women in the real estate India.

On the cover we have Shwetha Kondur, Co-Founder, Vista Rooms. Shwetha is a qualified Chartered Accountant who started her career in London as an accountant with a large Retail brand. She later went on to join the Investment Banking team of Pricewater House Coopers in Bangalore. Shwetha's role at the investment banking team gave her an opportunity to work closely with leading entrepreneurs in south India which helped her understand business strategy.

The issue also features Roma Bajaj, Director, BAJAJ Real Estate. A curious learner, free-spirited leader, and spiritually savvy individual, Roma admires the leadership of Radhika Gupta of Edelweiss, Falguni Nair of Nykaa, and Ratan Tata of Tata Group. The crux of her success journey is to Think Big & Achieve Big.

Another woman leader in the issue is Rini Mohabey, Associate Director, Ensemble Infrastructure. Hailing from Nagpur, Rini is an accomplished architect specializing in the corporate interior industry. As the Associate Director at Ensemble Infrastructure, Rini handles business development along with developing a team of exceptional designers, ensuring ideas & design excellence. Her current focus is on bringing together the best of both worlds, simultaneously elevating design and business processes.
